Statement from Rod on Brea School Board Race

SACRAMENTO, CA - School Board President and re-election candidate Rod Todd, on tour with the Brea Olinda High School Band, issued the following statement on recent developments in Brea's school board race:

"While attending the Brea Olinda High School band's competition in Eugene, Oregon this weekend, I was notified that there are many campaign signs relative to the Board of Education election being destroyed and/or removed. I respect all of the candidates running and sincerely encourage all parties to honor and respect each other's signs. This is a form of freedom of speech and should not be abused.

"I also understand my name is now appearing on campaign signs along with two other candidates. I want to make it very clear that I had no prior knowledge of these signs. Neither was I asked if my name could be used. Because of those facts, I am requesting that the parties that purchased those signs and used my name, please remove them immediately."

Rod sets goals for next term on Brea's school board

  • Ensure every campus in the Brea Olinda Unified School District is the safest possible working environment for staff, and learning environment for students.
  • Continue support of the district's Small Learning Communities to increase articulation and align curriculum grades K-12.
  • Continue support for the expansion of the technological curriculum of the high school's Global IT Academy.
  • Continue support of our K-12 fine arts program, strengthening feeder programs for both instrumental and vocal music.
  • Continue support for the modernization of our schools' technology.
  • Encourage the Superintendent to continue his communication program to parents and community with the same high level of open-dialogue and transparency.
  • Continue support for students of Brea's La Floresta project who deserve to attend quality schools. Brea will not put money before the safety of students - who would be forced to cross Imperial Highway for an education.
  • Keep staff compensation at a level competitive with other comparable Orange County school districts.
  • Maintain a balanced budget with at least the legally-mandated reserve in an effort to keep the school district solvent.
  • Update the Brea Olinda Unified School District Facilities Master Plan for...
    • Options for the use of the current Olinda Elementary School site
    • Development of building plans for the new Olinda Elementary School
    • Continue studies of the future of new housing development in Brea
    • Study of the feasibility of new building revenue
